The next day Marick was summoned to go see his father in his office again.

He was gone for such a long time, and I needed some fresh air.

These people seemed to be more afraid of me than I was of them.

I walked down the stairs and heard fighting.

Marick grunted.

“Oh shit!” I ran down the steps. I should’ve run back up the stairs, but Marick was like me now. He had no access to magic now and I doubted that anyone would want to hurt me, because of what I was carrying in my belly.

“A fucking human, Marick Young!” the woman yelled and I knew it was Katia.

I paused for a second, but when he cried out again as something hit the floor, I found new life.

I entered a huge open area beyond the foyer and saw Marick standing at the opposite wall, trying to dodge so many objects flying in the air.

“I loved you, we could’ve been happy, she doesn’t even have magic! How could you do this to me? You are low life scum, dirt!”

“Stop yelling at him!” I cried. “I know you are upset, okay, but you were not there.”

“Love, stay out of it, please.” Marick warned me and then the woman looked at me with so much hatred.

“You,” she yelled, and an invisible hand grabbed me around my throat.

“Katia, don’t!” Marick roared. He came running toward me. I couldn’t breathe at all.

She blasted him away with a flick of her hand.

This woman was going to kill me. I couldn’t even speak to tell her how ugly she was.

Then she flew backward through the air and the grip loosened from my neck. I landed on the floor and gasped for air as I started to cough.

“Are you out of your mind?” Mila’s voice yelled. “That is royalty, Katia! You could be executed for that.”

Marick reached me. He looked horrible. His face was cut in so many places where objects had hit him. “Are you okay?” he asked looking petrified.

“I’ll live,” I said as his hand touched my belly.

“I wasn’t going to kill him, Mila.”

“I’m not talking about my brother! I’m talking about the babies who are growing in her!”

Katia froze. I saw the hurt in her eyes when Marick stood up, protecting me.

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

“You didn’t tell her.”

“It’s none of her business anymore!” Marick roared at his sister and walked out with me in his arms.

“What happened?” his father’s voice said from behind us.

“Nothing,” I replied, and just kept walking. We entered the room and Marick immediately started to look at my throat.

“I’m fine,” I said and touched his hand to stop him looking for bruises and things. He hugged me tight.

“Why did you leave this room?”

“That is what you are dealing with on a daily basis?”

“That was nothing, okay?”

“Marick, your face.”

“Danielle, I’m fine. Why did you tell my father it was nothing?”

“Didn’t you hear what your sister said?”

“She almost killed you.”

“She is angry, Marick. To be honest, I would be livid too if that was me, and I would kill whoever the other woman was.
